NOPR Update: Closing of FDG PET Data Collection

On June 11, 2013, CMS issued a final decision memorandum regarding FDG PET which calls for the end of the prospective data collection requirements under Coverage with Evidence Development (CED) for all oncologic indications for FDG-PET. Please note that this decision applies to the FDG-PET registry (NOPR-2009) only. Effective June 12, 2013, the NOPR-2009 registry will no longer accept new case registrations. The NaF-PET registry will remain open. PET facilities that wish to continue participating in the NaF-PET registry (or to begin participating) do not need to take further action. However, any PET facility that is currently participating in the NOPR and no longer wishes to continue its participation may submit a request to withdraw from the NOPR and have the balance in its escrow account refunded. If your site has cases in-progress in the NOPR-2009 FDG_PET registry for which the FDG PET scan was completed before the close of business on June 11, 2013, you are required to complete the data entry for these open cases. Any case registered on or before the close of business on June 11, 2013 without scan completion on or before June 11, 2013 will be cancelled and the $50 case registration fee will be automatically refunded to the site’s escrow account. Information regarding submission of claims for cases performed on or after June 12, 2013 that previously would have required entry into NOPR will be communicated as it becomes available. The National Oncologic PET Registry (NOPR), the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI), and Merlino Healthcare Consulting (MHCCC) will be hosting a webinar to review and discuss the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) final PET coverage decision to end coverage with evidence development (CED) for NOPR-covered FDG PET indications (CAG-00181R4) Wednesday, June 19th, 2013.
