Exceptional Cancer Care Close to HomeAlliance Oncology combines the convenience of receiving your cancer treatments close to home with the effectiveness of advanced, high-quality cancer care. Our patient care approach is more than just a focus on cancer treatment – it’s about making you feel at home, comfortable and confident in the care you are receiving. At Alliance Oncology partnered sites, radiation oncology services include radiation therapy and stereotactic radiosurgery delivered using state-of-the-art technology including CyberKnife®, GammaKnife®, TrueBeam™ and NovalisTx® systems.
Radiation Therapy or Radiotherapy uses external ionizing radiation to specifically target areas of cancer. Radiation therapy (also called radiotherapy) is a cancer treatment that uses high doses of radiation to kill cancer cells and stop them from spreading. Radiation therapy is used throughout the brain and body including use for skin cancer.
StEREOTACTIC Radiosurgery (srs AND sbrt)Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is a form of radiation therapy that focuses precise high-power energy on a small area of the body, primarily in the brain. Despite its name, radiosurgery is a treatment, not a surgical procedure. There are no Incisions (cuts) made on your body. Radiosurgery is often used to slow the growth of small, deep brain tumors that are hard to remove during conventional surgery. Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) works like SRS; treatments are only between 1 – 5 visits depending on the location of the body and any critical organs or anatomy near the tumor site.
Tumors of the brain and nervous system that can be treated using SRS include:
- Cancer that has spread (metastasized) to the brain from another part of the body
- A slow-growing tumor of the nerve that connects the ear to the brain (acoustic neuroma)
- Pituitary tumors
- Spinal cord tumors
- Trigeminal Neuralgia (severe nerve pain of the face)
- Blood vessel problems such as arteriovenous malformations
- Severe tremors (shaking)
- Breast (Accelerated Partial Breast Irradiation (CKSAPBI)-Registry )
- Recurrent Cancers and Metastatic Disease (Oligometastases)
- A type of skin cancer (melanoma) that involves the eye
