Providence Holy Cross Cancer Center (PHCCC) offers convenient access to the most advanced technologies in cancer care today. PHCCC – Santa Clarita is one of the first community centers in the country to offer image-guided radiation therapy through the Varian On-Board-Imaging system. With this technology, radiation oncologists are able to more accurately track and adjust tumor movement during treatment so that radiation is delivered more precisely, dramatically reducing radiation exposure to healthy tissue. Varian system technology is used to treat cancers of the lung, prostate, head and neck, and breast, where minimizing side effects is of special significance. In addition, both centers provide full application of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT). Because this treatment cannot be used to treat all cancers, the centers will continue to provide conventional treatment techniques that have been used and trusted for decades.
Providence Holy Cross Cancer Center serves as a model for the community-based delivery of cancer services closely partnered with other healthcare providers. This organization allows convenient patient access to other critical services such as physician specialists, imaging (MRI, CT, PET/CT), laboratory testing, and rehabilitation services. Many of these services are often located under one roof.
At Providence Holy Cross Cancer Center, comprehensive cancer care is provided by a highly specialized, compassionate team of oncologists, therapists, nurses, and support staff who work with the physicists and radiation oncologists to manage each patient’s course of treatment and care. This team has been working with patients in San Fernando and Santa Clarita for more than two decades. In addition, the core medical team works in tandem with nationally recognized specialists to develop each individual patient treatment plan. Pharmacists, dieticians, cancer educators, rehabilitation specialists, counselors, and patient support groups contribute to round out the continuum of care. Support services include symptom and side effect management, nutrition advice, family counseling, psychological care, stress management, educational resources, and support groups.
