Chairman of the Board
On March 29, 2016 Mr. Huang, Founder and Chairman of Fujian Thai Hot, was elected to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alliance HealthCare Services. Mr. Huang worked at China Construction Bank, Fujian Branch and has been a representative of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference since February 2013. Mr. Huang is the vice president of the Fujian Chamber of Commerce, and director of Fujian Haixia Bank. Mr. Huang has been the chairman and general manager of Thai Hot Group since March 2013. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Engineering.
DIRECTOR VICE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD
On March 29, 2016, Mr. Buckelew was appointed by the Alliance Board of Directors to serve as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors as well as the Chairman of our Strategic Planning and Finance Committee. He previously served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors since June 1, 2012, as well as interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for 16 months, until the appointment of Alliance’s current CEO, Tom Tomlinson, on October 1, 2013. Prior to that, Mr. Buckelew served as a Corporate Director for Alliance HealthCare Services since May 2009, and was a member of both the Audit and Compensation Committees. Before his Corporate Director/Board Member service for Alliance, Mr. Buckelew served as President and Chief Executive Officer for Gambro Healthcare Inc. from 2000 through 2005.
Previously, he was named Group President for the Medical Group of companies for Teleflex Inc. in 1996 and Chairman of Surgical Services Inc. (SSI) in 1998. He joined Sunrise Medical Inc. as Division President in 1986 and was promoted to Corporate President in 1993 and President/COO in 1994. Mr. Buckelew began his career with American Hospital Supply Corporation (AHSC) in 1975 and served as an executive with AHSC and later Baxter International following their merger in 1985. In addition to his board service for Alliance, Mr. Buckelew has served as a Corporate Director for numerous large service providers and medical product companies, which have provided him with a firm understanding of our industry, business and operations.
Chief Executive Officer
Tom C. Tomlinson joined Alliance HealthCare Services as Chief Executive Officer in October 2013. With more than 25 years of diverse executive management and leadership experience, Mr. Tomlinson’s experience spans the healthcare, consumer products, insurance, and airline industries. Prior to joining Alliance, Mr. Tomlinson served as the Chief Executive Officer for Midwest Dental. Previously, he spent 10 years with the Center for Diagnostic Imaging (CDI) in several senior roles including Chief Executive Officer, President and Chief Operating Officer, and Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. During his tenure, he played a key role in CDI’s growth and development while creating the second-largest radiology and related services organization in the U.S. with the merger of Insight Imaging and CDI.
Prior to CDI, Mr. Tomlinson held several key executive, finance and development positions in the consumer products, insurance, auto, and airline industries, including: Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Department 56, a publicly traded wholesale and retail consumer products company; President, Harmon Solutions Group, an insurance claim outsourcing company; and Vice President of Finance and Business Development for Apogee’s Auto Group; and numerous finance and development positions with Northwest Airlines and American Airlines. Mr. Tomlinson holds an M.B.A. from Columbia University and a B.A. from the University of St. Thomas.
Mr. Bartos has more than 25 years’ experience as a healthcare executive and director. He is currently a Director for Alliance HealthCare Services, Cardiovascular Systems Inc. and Outset Medical. Mr. Bartos previously served as Chairman & CEO for Rural/ Metro Corporation, the nation’s leading provider of ambulance, fire protection and safety services. Rural/Metro was sold in October of 2015.
Prior to that, Mr. Bartos was President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of LaVie Care Centers, a national long-term care company with revenues exceeding $1 billion annually. He served in this role from July 2009 through the sale of the company in December 2011. From December 2008 to July 2009, he was an Executive in Residence at Warburg Pincus, LLC. Mr. Bartos was Division President for Gambro Healthcare, Inc. from 2000 to 2004 and COO-East from 2004 to 2005. Mr. Bartos previously was the founder, President, CEO and a Director of Endoscopy Specialists Inc. He has extensive experience in business design, strategic planning, new product and service innovation, sales and marketing, and mergers and acquisitions with large, medium and small businesses in both public and private companies.
Mr. Dimick, a healthcare consultant and private investor, has been a Director since November 2002. Mr. Dimick served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of AmerisourceBergen Corporation from August 2001 through April 2002. From 1992 through August 2001 he served as senior executive vice president and chief financial officer of Bergen Brunswig Corporation. Mr. Dimick began his career as a corporate auditor with Deloitte and Touche where he held the position of partner for eight years.
Mr. Dimick is also a Director of WebMD Corporation, Resources Connection, Inc., Thoratec Corporation and Mylan Laboratories, Inc. Mr. Dimick has substantial experience in the healthcare services industry and is an audit committee financial expert, serving as a director and member of the audit committee of several publicly-traded healthcare companies. Mr. Dimick currently serves as the Chairman of our Audit Committee and as a member of our Finance Committee and Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee.
Mr. Feng is a Chinese Certified Public Accountant. He is now a senior advisor of PricewaterhouseCoopers (referred to as “PwC”). Mr. Feng was the Vice Chairman of Morgan Stanley China from March 2011 to August 2014. Before joining Morgan Stanley, he was the Office Managing Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers Beijing. Mr. Feng became a partner at PwC in 1995. Before joining PwC he was a Division head of the Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) from 1985 to 1992. Mr. Feng has over 20 years working experience in private and public services. He has worked extensively with the China Investment Corporation (CIC) and the Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) and market regulators and government agencies such as the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC), and the Ministry of Finance of the PRC (MoF). Mr. Feng currently serves on our Compensation Committee and Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. Given Mr. Feng’s substantial experience with financial and accounting matters, the Board determined that Mr. Feng should continue to serve as a director.
Edward L. Samek has been a Director since October 2001. Mr. Samek served as Vice Chairman of MedQuist, Inc. from 1998 to 2000 and as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The MRC Group and predecessor companies from 1982 to 1998 when it was acquired by MedQuist. Previously, he served as President of Hudson Pharmaceutical Corporation and Childcraft Education Corp. He has also held executive and management positions with Procter & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson and Avon Products, Inc.
Currently an independent consultant and investor, Mr. Samek serves as a Director of the Jackson Laboratory and Water Jel. He has extensive background and experience in the healthcare services industry and currently serves and has previously served on the boards of several healthcare companies. In addition, he is the Company’s longest serving director, having joined the Board in 2001. Mr. Samek currently serves as the Chairman of our Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee and as a member of our Compensation Committee and Audit Committee.
Mr. Viviano’s career spans three decades of success leading academic medical centers, for-profit health care organizations and nonprofit community hospitals. In 2015, Mr. Viviano joined Children’s Hospital Los Angeles as President and Chief Executive Officer as well as as a member of the Board of Trustees. Prior to joining Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Mr. Viviano served as the Chief Executive Officer of UC San Diego Health System and the Associate Vice Chancellor of University of California, San Diego Health Sciences. From 2003-2012 Mr. Viviano served as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Alliance HealthCare Services. Before his roles at Alliance, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of USC University Hospital and USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. USC University Hospital is a private research and teaching hospital staffed by 400 full-time faculty members of USC’s renowned Keck School of Medicine.The USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Hospital is a research and patient care hospital that serves as a major regional and national resource for cancer research, treatment, prevention and education.
Prior to his executive roles with USC, he was a member of the St. Joseph Health System from 1987 to 2000 and served as its Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer from 1995-2000. The St. Joseph Health System is a 14-hospital non-profit organization with revenues of $2.1 billion and hospitals in California and Texas. From 1994 to 1995, Mr. Viviano was the Southern California President, Regional President, as well as the President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Joseph Hospital – Orange. From 1992 to 1994 he served as the Chief Executive Officer for St. Jude Hospital.
Mr. Viviano holds a master’s degree in Public Administration-Public Health, from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Tao Zhang is a healthcare entrepreneur and serves on the Board of Directors of Alliance HealthCare Services. He founded United Pacific Healthcare in August 2014. Prior to the venture, Dr. Zhang worked directly under Dr. Thomas Frist, Jr., the co-founder of HCA, for six years, three years of which Dr. Zhang was in the US on a part-time basis. Dr. Zhang spent the remaining three years in China as the full-time chairman and CEO of CHC, Dr. Frist’s China venture in the healthcare delivery sector. Dr. Zhang earned his M.D. degree in China and underwent cardiac surgery training for three years before he joined CITIC Pacific in 2001. Dr. Zhang worked at CITIC Pacific for four years in the healthcare division and invested and built two of the top ten private hospitals in China. He also holds an M.B.A. and a Master’s Degree in Health Sector Management from Duke University.
